Rent to Own Shipping Containers

You can rent to own a shipping container from us with just $99 down on a standard container and monthly payments from about $125 for a used 20 ft. Pay for 12, 24, 36 or 48 months, and the container is yours when the term is complete.

Tri-State Container Solutions is family owned and run by Matt and Jonathan Spence. We sell the container, deliver it and run the rent to own program ourselves, so you deal with one company from the application to the last payment. The container goes to work on your property from the day it is delivered, while you pay it off.

Some people call this lease to own, others search for rent to own storage containers. It is the same program: a monthly payment that ends with you owning the container.

How rent to own works

  1. Apply. Fill in the application at the bottom of this page.
  2. Approval. We review the application and contact you with terms and delivery options. There is no traditional credit check.
  3. Delivery. A tilt-bed truck from your nearest yard sets the container on the ground, so you do not need a forklift on site.
  4. Pay monthly. Pay by credit card, autopay, check, ACH or money order through our online portal.
  5. Own it. When the term is complete, the container is yours.

What it costs

  • Down payment: just $99 on standard containers. Deliveries far from our yards may need a larger down payment; we check that from your ZIP code.
  • Monthly payment: from about $125 for a used 20 ft, depending on delivery location and local taxes. We quote the payment for the container you choose.
  • Terms: 12, 24, 36 or 48 months.
  • Extra down: putting more money down lowers the monthly payment.

To be straight with you: paying the full rent to own schedule costs more than buying the same container with cash. Cash is the lowest total cost. If you can pay up front, see our containers for sale and read how much a shipping container costs. Rent to own is for people who would rather keep their cash and pay by the month.

A rental rate, not a loan

Rent to own is a rental-purchase agreement. You pay a rental rate each month, not a loan payment, so there is no interest rate and no principal. There are no hidden fees and no buyout at the end. We are not a bank and we do not offer loans.

No traditional credit check

Looking for a storage container with no credit check? We do not run a traditional credit check before approval, and we do not report anything to the credit bureaus. You still go through the application, and we may run a public-records check as part of it.

Paying it off early

There is no prepayment penalty. A one-time early payoff takes 33% off your remaining balance, and a 90-day payoff is also available.

What the program covers

Rent to own covers new (one-trip) and used 20 ft and 40 ft containers. Office containers are financed differently: rent to own through a partner with terms up to 60 months, or a loan program, and either way with a soft credit check. The $99 down offer does not apply to offices.

  • The $99 down offer is for standard containers only. Side door units and modified containers are not part of it; ask us about those.
  • Modifications can be approved with an extra deposit.
  • You can move the container later with our approval, and you pay the transport.

Common Questions

Is there an interest rate on rent to own?

No. It is a rental-purchase agreement at a rental rate, not a loan, so there is no interest. No hidden fees and no buyout: finish the term and you own the container.

Do you check my credit?

Not in the traditional way. We do not run a credit check before approval, and we do not report to the credit bureaus. We may run a public-records check as part of the application.

Is there a penalty for paying it off early?

No. There is no prepayment penalty. A one-time early payoff takes 33% off your remaining balance, and a 90-day payoff is available.

Can I move a rent to own container?

Yes, with our approval. You pay the cost of moving it.

How much is the down payment and the monthly payment?

Just $99 down on standard containers, and from about $125 a month for a used 20 ft, depending on delivery location and local taxes. Deliveries far from our yards may need a larger down payment, so send us your ZIP code and we will check.
